Choosing INDUSTRIAL ENGINEERING

What Is Industrial Engineering?

Industrial engineering, in its current form, began in the early 20th century, when the first engineers began to apply scientific theory to manufacturing. Factory owners labeled their new specialists 'industrial' or management engineers.

Industrial engineering is commonly defined as the integration of machines, staff, production materials, money, and scientific methods. While many current industrial engineers still deal in these areas, the scope of their work has become more general. Today's industrial engineers work in many more settings than just factories; in recent years, fields like energy and IT have become particularly reliant on the skills of industrial engineers. These flexible professionals may also be employed in:
  • Hospitals and other health-care operations
  • Transportation
  • Food processing
  • Media
  • Banking
  • Utilities
  • Local, regional and national governments
The requirements for a college degree in industrial engineering are very diverse and, compared to otherengineering degree disciplines, very people-oriented. Budding industrial engineers learn to plan, design and implement complex systems for a given industry. They do this by taking into account every conceivable variable, from budgets to machine capabilities to human imagination and error. Online degree programs in industrial engineering are increasingly available to working engineers who want to advance their careers without sacrificing valuable income and work experience by attending school full-time.

In a nutshell, industrial engineering majors learn to use engineering and scientific principles to design, manufacture, or improve systems that involve both goods and services. Industrial engineers deal with how products are created, the quality of those products, and the cost of making the products.

Industrial engineers also deal with the design and workings of the factories that make products. They design the workstations, automation, and robotics for systems all along the supply chain. Industrial engineers are often highly involved in any managerial aspects of modern businesses. These duties range from floor manager all the way up to CEO.

In addition, industrial engineers are concerned with employee safety and workplace environments. They balance the implementation of responsible processes with the other requirements of making a product or providing a service of high quality.

In today's global marketplace, industrial engineering is fast becoming international engineering. Global boundaries are diminishing, requiring industrial engineers to be fluent in foreign languages and customs. International travel could very well be the norm for engineers, as companies expand and conduct more and more business with foreign governments.

Career Education in Industrial Engineering

Due to the fact that career options are nearly limitless for industrial engineering majors, they must get a well-rounded education. This requires the study of:
  • Computer systems
  • Mathematics
  • Statistics
  • Design
  • Management
In addition, it is wise for the industrial engineering major to focus on the physical and social sciences, including economics.

Industrial Engineering Coursework

Students entering into an industrial engineering degree program should expect to enroll in many of these types of classes:
  • Engineering Economy
  • Manufacturing Processes
  • Operations Research
  • Simulation
  • Industrial Cost Control
  • Robotics and Automation
  • Inventory Control
  • Facility Design
  • Organizational Management
  • Quality Control
  • Human Factors
  • Methods & Work Measurement
  • Production Control

On-Campus and Online Degree Programs in Industrial Engineering

Although some campus and online colleges offer associate degrees in industrial engineering technology, most careers in the field of industrial engineering require a bachelor's degree at minimum. Since the field is so specialized, and since proper training and education are vital to the safety of so many people, a bachelor's degree is usually required for entry-level positions. Online degrees are rarely available at this level, since so much hands-on training is required.

A bachelor's degree generally takes four years to complete. Courses typically include core engineering classes available to all disciplines in addition to specialized industrial engineering classes.

What Can You Do With a College Major in Industrial Engineering?

Industrial engineers determine the most effective way to use the basics of any production - people, machines, materials, information, money, and energy - in order to make a product or provide a service. Some of the most productive and successful professionals in the industrial engineering field share many of these common traits:
  • Oral and written communication skills
  • Organizational ability
  • Computer literacy
  • Creativity
  • A knack for designing and improving systems
  • Mathematics ability
  • Problem solving
  • People skills
The industrial engineer provides the key to achieving the performance goals of ownership or management. Unlike engineers in other specialties, the industrial engineer is primarily concerned with increasing productivity through the management of people, the methods of organization and the available technology.

In order to solve problems encountered in product manufacturing and service industries, industrial engineers must study the product and its requirements. They use mathematical models to figure out production requirements and to design manufacturing and information systems. They develop and manage systems that aid in financial planning for individual products. This is also an effective method of cost analysis.

Industrial engineers design financial systems and improve, upgrade, and reconfigure these systems. Those engineers on the management track may also develop wage, payroll, and salary administration systems and other job performance and evaluation systems. These engineers are so deeply involved with every nuance of the corporate system that they are often the best source for overall company evaluation.

Health and safety engineers are very similar to industrial engineers. They both deal with the entirety of a production process. Health and safety engineers promote worksite safety and corporate health by applying models and systems of the industrial process. These engineers must be able to recognize and then diffuse hazardous situations before they come to pass.

In addition to manufacturing and service industries, industrial engineers apply their knowledge to a variety of industries and positions. An industrial engineering major might work as a:
  • Management Engineer: The management engineer is primarily responsible for the systems and procedures that make employees more effective, individually and as a unit.
  • Ergonomist: An industrial engineer who is concerned with the proper tool usage and health systems that prevent stress and injury.
  • Operations Analyst: Responsible for integrating people and machines effectively and safely.
  • Quality Engineer: Measures, tests and ensures the quality and safety of products or services.
Industrial engineering graduates might find themselves working on projects like these:
  • Designing the admissions procedure at a hospital.
  • Discovering a new way to assemble a product that will prevent worker injury.
  • Representing a company in the design and construction of a new plant.
  • Performing motion and time studies.
  • Developing prototype units for the cellular phone car adapter market.
  • Simulation modeling.
  • Developing a hardware protection program for spacecraft.
  • Developing a supplier quality program.
  • Implementing lean manufacturing concepts.
  • Developing and launching a complete material handling system.
  • Developing the conceptual layout of a dockyard and ship repair facility.
  • Working on a medical device to treat sleep apnea.
  • Representing manufacturing and purchasing concerns on a design team.
  • Teaching industrial engineering courses.
  • These are just a few areas in which businesses use industrial engineers. In essence, when a company functions at the highest level of productivity, an industrial engineer probably designed and implemented the systems that brought the company to that point.

Certification, Licensure and Associations

No national licensing body certifies industrial engineers. Most employers rely on the solid training that graduates receive during their degree programs. Instead, most licensing and certification is reserved for the products designed and developed by industrial engineers.
Since an industrial engineer can effectively function in any field, s/he must conform to the certification bodies that oversee his or her particular specialty. Some states do require additional licensing as an engineer. Consult your local statute and licensing boards for more information.

The freshers guide to campus life

Congratulations. There are about 1.4 million young Nigerians who are waiting to hear that word; waiting to receive an admission letter that begins with it. Sadly, only about 700,000 of these students will receive the good news. But getting admission into the tertiary institution is just a tip of the iceberg.
The sad fate of students, who have been unable to complete their tertiary education for reasons ranging from peer pressure, cultism, drugs and alcohol abuse to pure laziness should serve as an example to fresh students, but this is not always the case. Many fresh students still fall victims of these vices. Some other times, challenges could be as minor as the most affordable way to get food or the best ways to save your money.
  • Living conditions
Reports say that only about 25 % of Nigerian University students live on campus. This means that for every student who lives on campus, there are three others who face the stressful task of commuting to and from school every day.
Staying off campus isn’t just stressful, it could sometimes be dangerous. Most incidents of campus violence usually take place off campus. But if you can’t make the 25%, and need to stay in an off campus hostel, don’t be alarmed.
However, ensure that you do your best to investigate your off campus hostel. What sort of people stay there? What’s the security like? Be sure to begin searching as soon as possible to get the best deals available. If you need to share rent and board with someone else, do your best to find out about your future roommate’s character.
  • Choose friends wisely
You have probably heard it time and time again that bad company corrupts good manners. It might sound like a cliché to you; but it’s probably ageless because it’s true. No, you will not get special grades for making friends with the most popular people on campus. So don’t be so desperate that you can do anything for friendships. Take out time to pick friends that can spur you on morally and academically. Remember that although campus streets may sometimes seem like a movie set, you’re there to get a BSc, not an Oscar for ‘Best Friendship on set.’

  • Start studying on time
It could be pretty overwhelming when you get into school for the first time. There are lots of new places to learn about…let the library be one of them. Apart from registration and some periodic orientation programmes, your first few weeks will be the freest you’ll ever be in your schooling career.
  • Too early for trouble
There are so many things you need to prove when you get into school. That you can break the rules and get away with it is not one of them. The thing about trouble is that your record tends to stay with you and put you into more and more trouble. If you don’t know the rules and regulations of the institution you are about to enter, find out, and if you can’t take the heat, don’t take the admission. Ask any parent; it’s more honourable to have a child stay at home than to have him expelled or suspended.
  • Watch your pocket
Cut your cloth according to your size. Don’t spend money because other people are doing the same. Budget properly before spending a kobo; appropriate for giving, spending and saving.
  • Activism with caution
Of course, you should not hesitate to fight for your rights. But be sure to do so within the rules and regulations of your institution, and without violence and threats.
  • This Boyfriend-Girlfriend thing
On campus, you will most likely be surrounded by more members of the opposite sex than you have ever been in your entire life. The choice whether or not to enter a relationship as soon as you get into school is yours. But bear in mind that you should get your priorities right, right from the start.

Choosing MANUFACTURING ENGINEEERING

What is Manufacturing Engineering?

More than the average person might realize, engineers are creative pillars of modern society. While a painter focuses his creative energy towards expressing himself on a canvas, a manufacturing engineer works on the creation of things, processes, and technology. We rely on the vision and genius of our society's engineers every single time we turn on the television, drive a car, check our email, do laundry, or take showers. Basically, the work of an engineer is involved with almost everything we do.

Manufacturing engineers have the task of making manufacturing processes better, faster, and cheaper. Their success or failure directly impacts the advancement of technology and the spread of innovation. A professional in this field constantly reviews the allocation of resources, analyzes productivity, and seeks ways to maximize production while minimizing cost. Manufacturing engineering careers offer challenging opportunities that never fail to engage intellectual curiosity and push the edge of innovative thinking.

As the demands of the American consumer continue to increase, manufacturing engineers will work to develop products, buildings, systems, and various other human necessities. The U.S. Department of Labor predicts that job opportunities for manufacturing engineers will continue to grow over the next decade-albeit more slowly than other industries, due in part to outsourcing. But as companies strive to update production and processes to keep pace with the speed and efficiency of modern technology, the skill sets and knowledge of educated manufacturing engineers will be in increasing demand.

Is Manufacturing Engineering the Right Choice for You?

To achieve success in manufacturing engineering, a quality education is an absolute must. Engineers draw heavily on mathematical and scientific knowledge, and these are skills best developed in a manufacturing engineering degree program. A good engineering degree program will provide students with an opportunity to fuse math and science with top-notch communications skills. But how can you decide if manufacturing engineering is the right field to pursue? There are several things to consider.

First, think about the scope of your engineering interests. Manufacturing engineering is just one facet of the engineering industry. Manufacturing engineers enjoy improving the production process from start to finish. They have the ability to keep the whole production process in mind as they zero in on a particular portion of the process. Successful students in manufacturing engineering degree programs are inspired by the notion of starting with a natural resource, such as a block of wood, and ending with a usable, valuable product, such as a desk.

Secondly, earning a college degree in manufacturing engineering involves intense and thorough study of advanced math and science, including calculus, computer science, physics, and other upper-level courses. Potential students should thrive in such courses. Proper preparation for an engineering education includes high school courses in math, science, computers, and computer assisted drafting.

Compare and contrast different manufacturing engineering programs to find the best fit. This is a good way to discover what qualities you're seeking in a program. Additionally, this type of research will help you figure out what questions to ask admissions counselors. The more information you can gather about a potential manufacturing engineering degree program, the better informed your decision will be.

It is also a good idea for prospective students to talk to an experienced manufacturing engineer. Ask questions about day-to-day job tasks, opportunities for career advancement, education requirements, and anything else you would want to know about your future career. This sort of career investigation will certainly provide a more complete picture of your future opportunities.

Manufacturing Engineering Degree Programs

Even within this highly specialized field of engineering, many choices exist. Whether you're a student interested in developing an initial set of engineering skills, or a professional engineer hoping to focus your general knowledge of manufacturing engineering, you'll enjoy plenty of appealing opportunities.

Online Degrees in Manufacturing Engineering

Recently, the options for studying manufacturing engineering have expanded to include distance learning. Online engineering degree programs enable more students to obtain a quality education without having to relocate to a physical campus. Online degrees have opened the doors to many future engineers, as well as professional engineers hoping to advance their existing careers. An engineering degree can open doors to many other related careers, including information systems management, computer programming, and business consulting.

Because the field advances quickly to keep pace with cutting-edge technology, many manufacturing engineers rely on distance learning to continually increase and improve their skills. Online education makes it possible for students to maintain commitments to full-time jobs while completing requirements to earn a degree. Online engineering students participate in online tutorials, web seminars, and interactive labs virtually. Students who enroll in distance learning degree programs enjoy a unique opportunity to tailor their own schedule and course load to fit in with existing commitments to jobs and family.

Certificate Programs in Manufacturing Engineering

Engineering certificate programs are a worthwhile option, both for new students seeking an introductory educational experience and for current manufacturing engineering professionals who want a more in-depth knowledge of their specialty. Online engineering certificate programs encourage students to improve their skills in a narrow, specific aspect of the field.

This allows manufacturing engineering majors to develop a focused expertise that could translate into stronger employment opportunities and job growth. In addition, when you complete the requirements for a certificate in engineering, many online degree programs allow you to transfer these credits toward a degree program. Certificate programs vary, and potential students should discuss particular degree programs with school admissions counselors.

Associate Degrees in Manufacturing Engineering

Engineering students pursuing an associate degree will discover opportunities in several engineering fields. Most associate's degree programs provide students with foundational knowledge of engineering technology -- a more vocationally-oriented specialization. Students who earn an associate's degree can qualify for many entry-level jobs in engineering technology fields. This is an attractive opportunity for students to get their feet wet in the classroom and on the job before deciding to pursue a more intense degree program.

Bachelor of Science in Engineering

The Bachelor of Science in Engineering is the foundation for the majority of manufacturing engineering careers. Most BSE programs focus heavily on the general concepts of engineering, math, science, and technology. Intense and rigorous, BS programs also emphasize the combination of strong engineering skills with the ability to effectively communicate. Students pursuing a BS in Engineering should also expect to study humanities, history, and ethics.

Co-ops, Apprenticeships and Internships

Students in manufacturing engineering degree programs enjoy several potential career paths. One helpful way to narrow down the options is to participate in engineering-related cooperative education programs (co-ops) and internships.

Because engineering involves applying science, math, and technology to real-world problems, engineering professionals find hands-on experience a critical part of a quality education. Students have the opportunity to gain solid work experience as interns and co-op associates, and manufacturing companies are able to find bright, motivated young engineers early in their careers.

The process of landing a summer internship or a semester-long co-op is very competitive, but this should be a priority for any manufacturing engineering student who isn't already in the industry. Major manufacturing companies offer internships to students who excel academically, demonstrate leadership potential, are willing to work hard, and have the ability to communicate effectively. It is not uncommon for a student to intern at the same company for multiple summers, and it is also not uncommon for companies to offer full-time employment to outstanding interns and co-op participants upon graduation.

What Can You Do With a College Major in Manufacturing Engineering?

  • Industrial Engineer. Industrial engineering often overlaps with manufacturing engineering. With a similar focus on manufacturing processes, industrial engineers focus on the product development process and seek to constantly streamline and improve manufacturing techniques. Professionals working in this field often pursue advanced training in quality assurance and operations management. Industrial engineers find work in several industries, including manufacturing, technology, and service. As modern technology continues to advance, industrial engineers are applying manufacturing techniques to most other industries.
  • Business Consultant. When a manufacturing company is having trouble addressing problems, they often hire a business consultant to offer advice and potential solutions. Successful engineering consultants are experts in particular niches or industries. Business consultants are able to look at problems objectively, formulate plans for improvement, and most importantly, effectively communicate with clients. Business consultants with degrees in manufacturing engineering are especially valuable to companies seeking to update and streamline production and assembly procedures. Knowledge of proven business and management principles is necessary for this career.

Choosing HEALTH SCIENCES

What do Health Majors study?

Health and medical science majors enjoy a wealth of career opportunities, from surgery to healthcare administration. Medical science majors generally focus on the pre-professional coursework that will form the foundation for their later work in graduate or professional schools. On the other hand, health science majors study the role of science in medical investigations, especially in areas like diagnostics and rehabilitation. Health and medical sciences majors are qualified for careers in hospitals, in health agencies, or in major pharmaceutical companies, just to name a few.
Health Healthcare Nursing

What Jobs Are Hot in Health and Medical Sciences?

Nurse -- Many mid-life career changers have flocked to the nursing profession for two major reasons. First, the current shortage of qualified nurses provides job seekers with extraordinary control over their schedule and commute. Second, despite potentially high levels of stress and fatigue on the job, many nurses report a significantly high degree of professional satisfaction, especially when compared with typical office or retail jobs.

Medical Assistant -- The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) predicts medical assistants will be one of the fastest growing occupations from 2012 to 2022, with an expected 29 percent increase in available jobs. With continual changes to insurance procedures and malpractice insurance, many doctors will rely much more heavily on medical assistants to provide excellent patient care in busy practices. And as doctors delegate more and more tasks to medical assistants, today's health and medical science majors can expect a high degree of job security and satisfaction in these roles, which often provide significant tuition reimbursement and professional development benefits.

Physical Therapist -- As Americans live longer and recover more quickly from major surgeries, the demand for qualified, specialist therapists should expand even more in the next ten years. With a growing elderly population unaccustomed to losing their mobility, physical therapists will enjoy tremendous demand in the coming decades.

Experienced therapists can choose whether to work in a hospital setting, in a private practice, or even in client homes. Physical therapists and aides can expect a strong amount of schedule flexibility and the potential for higher than average financial rewards.

Pharmaceutical Representatives -- Global drug companies invent new solutions to health problems at a dizzying pace. To inform health professionals around the country about recent breakthroughs in medicine, pharmaceutical companies hire thousands of local representatives who can speak one-on-one with doctors and other caregivers about the benefits of new prescription drugs.

Health and medical science majors who share a love of sales and networking can launch rewarding careers that offer travel benefits, competitive salaries, and the opportunity to share exciting breakthroughs that can ultimately save lives.

Why Should You Consider a College Major in Health and Medical Sciences?

Health and medical sciences majors enjoy some of the rosiest career prospects among all students, according to the BLS. Not only will today's graduates replace aging baby boomers in the job market, but the number of baby boomers living longer and requiring long-term medical care foreshadows a demand for workers that few employers can adequately meet. Therefore, expect unprecedented battles for talent in the next few decades, marked by rising salaries, expanding job perks, and improved working conditions.
Even in today's market, employer demand for health and medical sciences majors has caused steady salary increases for graduates.

So many institutions are facing shortages that many graduates enjoy unprecedented job mobility and flexibility, whether they work in a private practice or in a major medical facility.
A recent search of a major job listings service identified nearly 3,000 unfilled positions for nurses in the Boston area alone. The same search shows the need for over 2,500 physicians' assistants and 1,500 therapists and researchers. Multiply these numbers across the entire country and you quickly understand the level of job security and high demand that today's health and medical sciences majors will enjoy throughout their careers.

Online Degrees in Medical and Health Sciences

It sounds counterintuitive, but thanks to advanced technologies, more and more healthcare students are able to earn their degrees partially or entirely online, depending on their specialties. Physicians and nurses, of course, must go through hands-on training, but aspiring healthcare administrators, psychologists, public health specialists and even nurse administrators have the option to study online. Distance education makes training possible for students who live in remote areas, far from teaching hospitals or career colleges, and those who must continue to work part- or full-time while they study.
Online degrees have become particularly popular for healthcare managers, whose work does not involve direct clinical contact, and registered nurses who have completed hands-on training and want to advance to managerial roles with a BSN or MSN. In some cases, even clinical degrees may be earned through hybrid programs, in which the student learns theory online and arranges for physical experience locally.

What Kinds of Candidates Make the Best Health and Medical Sciences Majors?

Because balanced, bright, and considerate individuals make the best health and medical sciences majors, admissions officers search for these positive traits and life experiences among their applicants:
  • Solid high school grade point averages
  • Strong scores on standardized tests like the SAT
  • A positive, upbeat personality
  • Volunteer experience in a hospital or other health care setting
  • Community involvement
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills
Although the ability to absorb and apply complex medical theory will come in handy, most health and medical sciences programs emphasize the need for a graduate to enjoy life as a well-rounded individual. The quality of healthcare depends on filling vacant positions with smart people who possess a good bedside manner. Because consumers gain more control over their health care choices every year, strong patient service can directly impact whether a graduate's employer thrives or suffers over the years to come.

All you need to know about AFFILIATE PROGRAM/MARKETTING

If the phrase 'affiliate marketing' sounds like Greek to you, this is the guide you've been waiting for. Azozie Ebube, MD of studentsadvice gives a simple, easy-to-understand overview of the affiliate marketing industry, with ten handy tips to get you started. You could generate big returns from this online marketing strategy.
What is affiliate marketing?
Affiliate marketing is a way of making money by referring people to purchase items online. More and more companies are starting to use this form of marketing to reward affiliates for generating website visitors to their business. Affiliates are only paid when sales are completed so it's an extremely cost-effective tool.
PC World, for example, pay a 5% commission for every visitor an affiliate recommends who makes a purchase. While it's a small commission, the affiliate is able to benefit from PC World's brand awareness which can often result in sales being generated on a regular basis.
Commissions range from as low as 1% with established retailers, right up to 75% on some digital products. The health and beauty market is one of the most affiliate heavy, with average commissions around 30%.
How do I become an affiliate?
Becoming an affiliate is very simple and although each program may have their own criteria for approval, they are normally free to join and have no pre-requisites.
The best way to find suitable brands to promote is by simply using a search engine using: '[Brand] + Affiliate Program'. Some companies run in-house affiliate programs, however this is a very specialist area. Therefore, most companies opt to employ an 'affiliate network' which has already built a large base of affiliates and gained years of experience in running successful programs for clients.
You need to generate regular content and reviews around a certain topic. Typically the more content and research you generate the greater the likelihood of you generating significant sales, which is why I'd always recommend marketing something that interests you.

Top 10 tips on making money as an affiliate

1.    Choose the correct niche - This is one of the biggest determining factors of whether you'll succeed in making money online.
If you enjoy camping, for example, then start off by looking at Millets or Blacks and you'll have hundreds of products to choose from. However, if you try and market something you don't enjoy just to make money then it's possible you'll get bored and give up.
2.    Find the correct affiliate program - When comparing affiliate programs in your selected niche, you should consider more than just the amount of commission you'll earn.
The two most important elements we believe make a successful affiliate campaign include:

Communication:
Can you speak to the affiliate manager in charge of the campaign? A good affiliate program will have a dedicated affiliate manager who should be very accessible and responsible for helping you make money.
Desire:
Do the products or services you are considering promoting really stand out? Will they convert visitors into sales? Would you purchase it yourself?
If you answer no to either of these questions it might not be a product for you.

3.    Find a mentor - When first starting out there's a steep learning curve. You need to answer questions like, How to make a website? Which products should you promote? How can you get visitors to your website?  Once the visitors are on your site, how do you convert them to sales?
I'd always recommend finding an affiliate network which offers a personal mentor, assigned to help you make money. MoreNiche currently runs a 14-day course which we think can turn anyone from a beginner into a fully functioning affiliate.

4.    Join a community - In addition to a mentor you should also consider joining a community of likeminded individuals. Here you can ask questions and get lots of unique feedback. Some leading affiliate forums include, Affiliates4U, ABestWeb and WickedFire.
5.    Get a free blog - Use a free blogging platform like WordPress or Blogger to create a site for free which can start to make you money. They're completely free, can be setup in minutes and are extremely easy to use.
6.    Stay Focused - It's very easy to get drawn into promoting lots of different products on the same site which, from a visitor's point of view, can be confusing. I'd recommend sticking to one topic on each of your websites.
Ensure you provide plenty of information about each product which will make the consumer feel knowledgeable enough to purchase after reading your site. It's essential you become a master of your niche and understand it inside out.
7. Don't spend money - The aim of affiliate marketing is to make money, but it's also very easy to spend money, which makes it harder to see a return. I'd suggest concentrating on free traffic generation while you find your feet, rather than spending money on Pay Per Click advertising.
When you become more experienced and knowledgeable you might want to think about buying new web addresses and paying for additional traffic generation.
8.      Content is king - Until you have cash, content is your king. The more articles, product reviews, visitor feedback and information you can publish on your website (or blog), the greater the chance you have of attracting visitors to your website.
Search engines like to show fresh content so I'd recommend adding new pages to your website at least every few days. Make sure they're easily found by your visitors though a good side navigation or sitemap.
9.      This is not a get rich quick scheme - You shouldn't expect to put up a website tonight and wake up in the morning with your first cheque; affiliate marketing is not a get rich quick scheme and does involve work.
I've seen affiliates from all walks of life, based all around the world and with completely different skill sets, but the one thing they all have in common is dedication to their sites.

10.  Enjoy it - Affiliate marketing should be enjoyable and you have the flexibility to work when you want, where you want, and on whatever niche you want.
A large percentage of affiliates earn money running sites as a hobby alongside their full-time job and many have been able to add significant second income streams by doing so.
Go about it the right way and you can learn a lot about the internet, your chosen niche and consumer behaviour. By joining a community and working with a mentor there's also the chance to meet new people along the way, whilst making some money.

Choosing SOCIAL SCIENCES

What is Social Science?

Social Science majors study humanity's impact on our world. Once considered elements of the humanities, many disciplines like communication, history or anthropology gained their social sciences categorization in the early 20th century. Academics after World War I challenged themselves to apply statistics and mathematical measurements to areas they previously studied by observation alone. Today's social science majors analyze how our human behavior creates ripple effects in everything from economics to the environment.

Top Social Science Career Paths

In previous decades, social science majors worked almost exclusively through the academic ranks in order to land tenure track positions at colleges and universities. More recently, the business community has created exciting new opportunities for social science majors to apply their skills and improve the lives of our nation's citizens.

Market Researcher

Expert market researchers analyze how consumers think and feel about products and ideas and distill that data into information that companies can use to produce stronger, more effective products and services.
Manufacturers rely on market research to shape the design of new products long before they reach store shelves. Market researchers help politicians understand what policies and speeches can help win elections. Entertainment companies employ battalions of market researchers to measure audience feedback about new films, television shows, and radio formats.
Despite advances in technology that allow market researchers to poll huge quantities of people at once by telephone or Internet, many companies rely instead on qualitative focus groups which consist of small groups interviewed by a live human being. The strongest market researchers can distill these conversations into meaningful suggestions and measurable metrics that can directly improve sales. Skilled social science majors should anticipate rewarding careers with research firms, with government agencies or with corporate employers.

Social Worker

Social science majors with a strong desire to directly improve people's lives can find tremendous rewards in careers as social workers. Although social workers are most often associated with cases involving children, the U.S. Labor Department anticipates tremendous demand for social workers that can work with America's rapidly growing elderly population. Likewise, as managed care companies attempt to shift resources to prevention of illness instead of treatment, experts indicate a strong need for substance abuse and weight loss counselors.

Public Relations Strategist

As companies, governments and politicians all rely on the social sciences to measure their performance, all of those entities require increasing amounts of help to communicate the effectiveness of their work to the general public. Social sciences majors who combine coursework in journalism with study in specialized fields like sociology or economics can thrive in the fast paced world of public relations.
These communications specialists help their employers react to external events. They also play a more important role, working internally with teams, anticipating potential reactions to new products, policies or programs and integrating media plans into their development cycles.

Teaching English as a Second Language

Dual forces of immigration and world trade have revolutionized the way we speak as a country. As a result, foreign workers and new residents to the United States clamor for advanced instruction in English.
Social science majors with concentrations in linguistics can serve this population well because of their adaptability and their clear communication skills. Whether working at a formal institution, in a community center setting, or even at a private company providing training as a worker benefit, ESL teachers can look forward to high demand for their skills in the decades to come.

Why Should You Consider a College Major in Social Science?

Regardless of whether they follow a tenure track through academia or the tracks of tribes through a jungle, social scientists live and work on the cutting edge of understanding what makes us human. No longer relegated to the back of the humanities pack, today's social science graduates work hard to improve society through innovations in business, politics, and communication.
In addition, students who aspire to travel the world can take part in numerous cultural and academic exchanges. In addition to the usual study abroad opportunities available to most students, social science majors can participate in far more exotic programs. Psychology students, for example, can learn more about the roots of their discipline in Germany and Austria. Anthropology majors can study land use and environmental impact in places like Chile, Costa Rica, and Argentina. Regardless of their concentration, social science majors enjoy a tremendous ability to enrich themselves by experiencing global cultures firsthand.

What Candidates Make the Best Social Science Majors?

Opinionated thinkers who enjoy crunching numbers while they find ways to improve society make some of the strongest social science majors. Although most students tend to select a specific area of focus, the arts and humanities heritage of the social sciences allow majors to gain exposure in a variety of disciplines.
Potential social science majors can also benefit from guidelines that permit institutions to grant credit for coursework done in high school or for career experience:
  • High school students can usually reduce their course load by as many as three classes over the course of their degree program simply by earning high scores on advanced placement exams.
  • Because social science programs rely on fieldwork, many institutions provide the opportunity to earn course credits in exchange for well-documented independent study. Therefore, keep a journal and highlight events in your life that could spark discussion with a professor.
